I walked in front of the kitchen and grabbed a tangerine. I sat on my sofa next to my window. I start to peel it, and the citrus starts to drip onto my fingers. They get sticky, and I wonder if I should continue. I feel an instant rush not to be messy. I love the smell of freshness and sweetness. I don’t like the texture on my fingers, but I do like the feeling. I watch my hands peel it, and I hear the birds singing. Those seconds spread slowly into a minute, and I feel like time expanded. I’m totally immersed in it, and I don’t remember when the last time I took this much time to do something so simple. It feels like a gift to have the time to notice. I look at my feet, and they are touching the floor, grounded. Be where your feet are, I thought as I remembered the quote I saw on Pinterest.
Sometimes, the smallest and simplest acts take so little time that they can easily be done on autopilot, like drinking a glass of water or peeling fruit. Still, I have found that in them lays the key to a new kind of presence.
With the intention of healing my relationship with time, I am starting to make noticing a practice. If we weren’t paying attention, life would go fast and unnoticed.
The practice of noticing the small things with attention throughout the day, has helped me remind my body through these small repetitions of presence, that I am here. It doesn’t take more that a few minutes and impacts my whole energy.
The magic in our lives is proportional to how present we are; being fully present creates a state of openness that helps us see the synchronicities, the aha moments!, the connections, the opportunities when they present themselves right in front of us, and be able to make decisions based on our intuition.
REMEMBER:
The little things are not so little, they create spaces for the big things.
Sending you love from the other side,
Liz
